Crassatella aquiana was named by Clark (1895) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene-Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.
DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene-Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is USNM 207155, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Aquia Creek, which is in a Paleocene marine horizon in the Aquia Formation of Virginia.
It was recombined as Crassatellites aquianus by Clark and Martin (1901).
