G. Storch and D. Dashzeveg 1997 | More transverse upper molars, with small hypocones, and propotionally wider lower molars than in Galericinae. Trigonid of m1 shorter than wide, though the paracristid froms a high shearing crest. Hypoconulid of m1-2 strongly reduced or absent; if present, placed very close to the entoconid; the hypoconulid of m3 projects posteriorly. Wide postcingulids on m1-2, ending at the hypoconulid region. Anterior dentition specialize: canines small, premolar series anterior to p3 shortened, p2 short and one-rooted, p1 short and one-rooted or absent. p4 with well-developed trigonid and reduced unicuspid talonid. P3 of subtrigonid type, double-rooted. Main cusps of p3-4 rather high and piercing. Critid obliqua of m1-3 low and buccal in position, joining the trigonid below the apex of the protoconid. Mental foramen associated with a depressed area on the lateral face of the lower jaw or with a groove directed anterodordad from the foramen. |
