Taxonomy
Lophospira basicarinata was named by Cullison (1938). Its type specimen is Missouri School of Mines & Metallurgy PC 7104, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is MSM 101.1. Diversion Channel 0.8 km west of Ancell (Scott City), which is in a Cassinian carbonate limestone in the Dutchtown Formation of Missouri.
