Trochus loryi was named by d'Archaic and Haime (1853) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene-Early Miocene; Oman, Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Trochus (Tectus) loryi by Vredenburg (1928); it was recombined as Tectus loryi by Harzhauser (2007) and Harzhauser et al. (2009).
