Crassatella alaeformis was named by Conrad (1830) [DISTRIBUTION: Paleocene-Eocene; Gulf Coastal Plain.]. Its type specimen is ANSP 30498, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Crassatellites alaeformis by Clark and Martin (1901); it was recombined as Crassatella (Bathytormus) alaeformis by Glibert and van de Poel (1970); it was recombined as Bathytormus alaeformis by Wingard (1993).
