Scambula perplana was named by Conrad (1869) [DISTRIBUTION: Campanian-Maastrichtian; Gulf Coastal Plain. COMMENTS: m. kosnik taxon no: 832]. Its type specimen is ANSP 18740, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.
It was recombined as Crassatella perplana by Stoliczka (1871); it was recombined as Crassatellites (Scambula) perplana by Johnson (1905); it was recombined as Anthomya (Scambula) perplana by Stewart (1930).
