Cyrtochetus was named by Cossmann (1899) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m T Mi Sepkoski's reference number: 614].

It was assigned to Buccinidae by Olsson (1931), Gazdzicki and Pugaczewska (1984) and Stilwell and Zinsmeister (1992); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
