Taxonomy
Drillia was named by Gray (1838) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R Sepkoski's reference number: 700]. It is extant. Its type is Drillia umbilicata.

It was reranked as Turris (Drillia) by Gabb (1864), Gabb (1873) and Moody (1916); it was reranked as Pleurotoma (Drillia) by Dall (1903) and Aldrich (1906); it was reranked as Surcula (Drillia) by Anderson (1928); it was reranked as Tropisurcula (Drillia) by Mansfield (1940); it was reranked as Clavus (Drillia) by Baluk (2003).
