Taxonomy
Gervillia longa was named by Geinitz (1867). It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Avicula longa by Meek (1872) and Meek and Worthen (1873); it was recombined as Pteria longa by Beede (1900) and Hoare (1961).
