Ellicea was named by Finlay (1928) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 728,899]. It is extant.

It was reranked as Austrofusus (Ellicea) by Beu et al. (1990).

It was assigned to Siphonaliinae by Finlay (1928); to Austrofusus by Beu et al. (1990); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
