Macrocheilus micula was named by Girty (1909) [?Macrocheilus micula]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Holopea micula by Girty (1915); it was recombined as Strophostylus (Anematina) micula by Knight (1933); it was recombined as Anematina micula by Yochelson and Saunders (1967), Gordon and Yochelson (1987) and Wagner (2023).
