Cerithium nodulosum monstrosus was named by Grateloup (1847) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Early Miocene; Oman, Italy, Greece.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Pyrazus monstrosus by Sacco (1895); it was recombined as Pyrazisinus monstrosus by Lesport and Cahuzac (2002) and Harzhauser (2007).
