Rimella mordax was named by Martin (1916) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene-Early Miocene; Oman, Indonesia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Varicospira mordax by Harzhauser (2007) and Harzhauser et al. (2009).

    It was synonymized subjectively with Varicospira mordax by Harzhauser (2007).
