Phorus deshayesi was named by Michelotti (1847) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Oligocene-Early Miocene; Indonesia, Oman, Iran, Somalia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Xenophora deshayesi by Azzaroli (1958), Harzhauser (2007) and Harzhauser et al. (2009).
