Patella hungarica was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; Mediterranean.]. It is extant.

It was misspelled as Capulus hungaricus by Nordsieck (1969); it was recombined as Capulus ungaricus by Montfort (1810) and Hendy (2007).
