Conus dormitor was named by Solander (1766) [DISTRIBUTION: Eocene-Oligocene. London Basin, Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Conorbis dormitor by Swainson (1840), Vredenburg (1925) and Iqbal (1980).
