Fulgoraria was named by Schumacher (1817) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than R]. It is extant. Its type is Voluta rupestris.

It was assigned to Volutidae by MacNeil (1960) and Mount (1976); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
