Fusus was named by Bruguière (1789) [Sepkoski's age data: T Plio R]. It is extant. Its type is Serratifusus craspedotus.

It was reranked as Rostellaria (Fusus) by d'Orbigny (1843); it was replaced with Fusinus by Sohl (1964).

It was assigned to Rostellaria by d'Orbigny (1843); to Nassariinae by Wilson (1993); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
