Sutilizoninae was named by McLean (1989). It is extant. Its type is Sutilizona.

It was reranked as the family Sutilizonidae by Warén and Bouchet (2001), Bouchet et al. (2005) and Kiel et al. (2010).

It was assigned to Scissurellidae by McLean (1989); to Lepetodriloidea by Warén and Bouchet (2001) and Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Vetigastropoda by Kiel et al. (2010).
