Arca bataviana was named by Martin (1883) [DISTRIBUTION: Early Miocene-Pliocene; Indo-Pacific.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Arca (Barbatia) bataviana by Noetling (1901); it was recombined as Barbatia bataviana by Mukerjee (1939); it was recombined as Arcopsis bataviana by Shuto (1971); it was recombined as Arcopsis (Arcopsis) bataviana by Skwarko (1994).
