Cyrtulus was named by Hinds (1843). It is extant. Its type is Cyrtulus serotinus.

It was reranked as Fusus (Cyrtulus) by Mayer-Eymar (1877); it was reranked as Clavilithes (Cyrtulus) by Mukerjee (1939).

It was assigned to Fusus by Mayer-Eymar (1877); to Clavilithes by Mukerjee (1939); and to Fusininae by Snyder (2003).
