Inquisitor was named by Hedley (1918) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 696]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Turridae by Ladd (1982); to Crassispirinae by Beu et al. (1990); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Drilliinae by Wilson (1994) and Wienrich and Janssen (2007).
