Taxonomy
Pterinea concentrica was named by Conrad (1838) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle Devonian; New York.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Modiomorpha.

It was recombined as Modiomorpha concentrica by Hall (1885) and Cox et al. (1969).
