Taxonomy
Modiolopsis cincinnatiensis was named by Hall and Whitfield (1875) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Ordovician; Kentucky.]. It is not a trace fossil. It is the type species of Whiteavesia.

It was recombined as Whiteavesia cincinnatiensis by Ulrich (1893).
