Chusenellinae was named by Kahler and Kahler (1966). Its type is Chusenella.

It was reranked as the family Chusenellidae by Leven (1992).

It was assigned to Fusulinoidea by Leven (1992); and to Schwagerinidae by Loeblich and Tappan (1984), Ueno et al. (2009) and Ueno et al. (2011).
