Rissoa proxima was named by Forbes and Hanley (1850) [DISTRIBUTION: Pliocene-Recent; Mediterranean, Northern Europe.]. It is extant.

It was recombined as Rissoa (Ceratia) proxima by Cerulli-Irelli (1914); it was recombined as Ceratia proxima by Marquet (1997).
