Hyalaea gypsorum was named by Bellardi (1873) [DISTRIBUTION: Late Miocene-Early Pliocene; Mediterranean.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Cavolinia gypsorum by Tiberi (1880) and Zorn (1997).
