Taxonomy
Nautilus aturi was named by Basterot (1825) [DISTRIBUTION: Tertiary; Europe, Mediterranean.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Aturia aturi by Bronn (1838), Vredenburg (1925), Peyrot (1933), Miller (1941), Glenister et al. (1956), Jung (1966), Bossio (1972), Woodring (1982) and Fritz and Hiden (1996).
