Voluta dentata was named by Sowerby (1839) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; Europe, Pakistan]. Its type specimen is Unknown number, a shell, and it is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Athleta (Volutospina) dentata by Vredenburg (1925) and Harzhauser et al. (2009).

  • Voluta sykesi was named by d'Archiac and Haime (1854) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene; Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

    It was recombined as Athleta (Volutospina) dentata sykesi by Vredenburg (1925); it was synonymized subjectively with Athleta (Volutospina) dentata by Harzhauser et al. (2009).
