Buccinum tessellatum was named by Bruguière (1789) [DISTRIBUTION: Oligocene-Recent; Indo-Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Dolium tessellatum by Bruguière (1790); it was recombined as Dolium (Eudolium) tessellatum by Vredenburg (1919) and Vredenburg (1925).
