Patella cornucopae was named by Lamarck (1802) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle-Late Eocene-Oligocene; Europe, Pakistan.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Hipponyx cornucopae by Vredenburg (1928).
