Taxonomy
Senectus was named by Swainson (1840). It is extant. Its type is Turbo spenglerianus.

It was synonymized subjectively with Turbo (Marmarostoma) by Hendy (2007); it was reranked as Turbo (Senectus) by Vredenburg (1928), Abrad (1946) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).

It was assigned to Senectinae by Swainson (1840); to Turbininae by Bouchet et al. (2005); and to Turbo by Vredenburg (1928), Abrad (1946) and Landau and Marques da Silva (2010).
