Neoguraleus was named by Powell (1939) [Sepkoski's age data: T Mi-l-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 681,899]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Mangeliinae by MacNeil (1960), Beu et al. (1990); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Mangeliidae by Darragh (2017).
