Taxonomy
Nerita perversa was named by Gmelin (1791) [DISTRIBUTION: Middle-Late Eocene; Europe, Sahara, Arabian Peninsula, Russia, Myanmar, Pakistan, India, Tibet, Egypt, Iran, Turkey, Somalia.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Velates perversus by Cox (1931), Vokes (1935), Eames (1952), Woodring (1957), Iqbal (1973), Woodring (1982), Squires (1984), Squires (1987), Squires and Demetrion (1992), Squires (1999) and Okan and Hosgor (2008).
