Notopeplum was named by Finlay (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 530]. It is extant. Its type is Notopeplum polita.

It was assigned to Zidoninae by Wilson (1994); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Volutidae by Darragh (2017).
