Olivancillaria was named by d'Orbigny (1839) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol R Sepkoski's reference number: 614]. It is extant. Its type is Oliva brasiliensis.
It was assigned to Olivinae by da Silva Forti (1969); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Olividae by Woods (1922), Olsson (1931), Mukerjee (1939) and Nielsen (2004).
