Frechastraea was named by Scrutton (1968) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi D Fras-u Sepkoski's reference number: 174,680,1240].

It was assigned to Phillipsastreidae by Hill (1981) and McLean (1994); and to Rugosa by Sepkoski (2002).
