Piestochilus was named by Meek (1864) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-u K Maes-u]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Cryptorhytis (Piestochilus) by Collignon (1951).

It was assigned to Cryptorhytis by Collignon (1951); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Fasciolariinae by Sohl (1964), Gliozzi and Malatesta (1983) and Snyder (2003).
