Taxonomy
Pisania was named by Bivona-Bernardi (1832) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-m R Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Nassariinae by Wilson (1994); to Buccinidae by Martin (1904), Gardner (1948), MacNeil (1960) and Todd (2001); to Pisaniinae by Beu and Maxwell (1987) and Vermeij (2001); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).

Synonyms
  • Hilda was named by Hoernes and Auinger (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo T Mi-m]. It is not extant.

    It was reranked as Triton (Hilda) by Hoernes and Auinger (1884); it was synonymized subjectively with Pisania by Beu and Maxwell (1987).

    It was assigned to Charonia by Hoernes and Auinger (1884); and to Neotaenioglossa by Sepkoski (2002).
