Murex craticulatus was named by Brocchi (1814) [DISTRIBUTION: Miocene; Europe.]. It is not a trace fossil.

It was recombined as Murex (Hadriania) craticulata by Sacco (1904); it was recombined as Hadriania craticulata by Strausz (1966) and Harzhauser (2002).
