Taxonomy
Pleuroploca was named by Fischer (1884) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo R Sepkoski's reference number: 614]. It is extant. Its type is Murex trapezium.

It was reranked as Fasciolaria (Pleuroploca) by Vredenburg (1925).

It was assigned to Fasciolaria by Vredenburg (1925); to Fasciolariidae by Todd (2001); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Fasciolariinae by Wilson (1994), Snyder (2003) and Snyder et al. (2012).
