Pollia was named by Sowerby (1843) [Sepkoski's age data: K Turo R Sepkoski's reference number: 909]. It is extant. Its type is Pollia suarezi.

It was reranked as Cantharus (Pollia) by Oostingh (1935), MacNeil (1960), Kojumdgieva and Strachimirov (1960) and Ladd (1977).

It was assigned to Buccinidae by Olsson (1931); to Cantharus by Oostingh (1935), MacNeil (1960), Kojumdgieva and Strachimirov (1960) and Ladd (1977); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
