Taxonomy
Oreaster boysii was named by Forbes (1848). It is not extant.

It was recombined as Pentaceros boysii by Spencer (1905); it was recombined as Stauranderaster boysii by Spencer (1907), Spencer (1913), Valette (1915), Mercier (1935) and Mercier (1936).
