Cypraea mauritiana was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Holocene-Recent; Indo-Pacific.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Cypraea (Mauritia), Mauritia (Mauritia).

It was recombined as Cypraea (Mauritia) mauritiana by Troschel (1863); it was recombined as Mauritia (Mauritia) mauritiana by Schilder (1941); it was recombined as Mauritia mauritiana by Cate (1967).
