Diagnosis
ReferenceDiagnosis
R. C. Frey 1980Beaks nearly terminal; anterior shell margin conspicuously flattened; one to three anterior teeth per valve, located posterior to anterior muscle platform, and two or three posterior teeth per valve.

The shell is ventricose, obliquely ovate with a reduced, strongly flattened, erect anterior end which has a shallow dorsal byssal sinus. The umbones are prominent
with nearly terminal, incurved beaks.
The posterior end is broadly rounded. The external
ornament consists of variably-spaced,
strong, concentric growth lines.

The broad, finely-striated ligamental area extends the length of the shell. There are one to three finely-crenulated anterior teeth per valve, located below the beaks and posterior to the anterior muscle platform. The posterior dentition consists of two or three teeth located posterior-laterally, just below the ligamental area. The anterior adductor scar is well defined, situated on a raised muscle platform below and anterior to the anterior dentition. The ventral margin of the platform is marked by a variably-developed cleft or myophoric notch. The muscle platform is separated from the anterior shell margin by a low ridge.
