Polythecalis (Chusenophyllum) was named by Tseng (1948) [Sepkoski's age data: P Leon-l P Leon-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Chusenophyllum paeonoidea.
It was reranked as Chusenophyllum by Hill (1956), Minato and Kato (1965), Sepkoski (2002) and Wang et al. (2003).
It was assigned to Wentzelellinae by Minato and Kato (1965); to Polythecalis by Tseng (1948) and Hill (1981); to Rugosa by Hill (1956) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Waagenophyllidae by Wang et al. (2003).
