Pseudotoma was named by Bellardi (1875) [Sepkoski's age data: T Than T Plio Sepkoski's reference number: 794]. It is not extant.

It was reranked as Genota (Pseudotoma) by Baluk (2003).

It was assigned to Turridae by Durham (1944), Harris and Palmer (1947) and Dockery (1977); to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002); and to Genota by Baluk (2003).
