Taxonomy
Prolimnocyon chowi was named by Meng et al. (1998). Its type specimen is IVPP V11138, a mandible (left dentary with m2-3), and it is not a trace fossil. Its type locality is Bayan Ulan site (lower 3 m), which is in a Paleocene terrestrial siltstone in the Nomogen Formation of China.
