Taxonomy
Patella nimbosa was named by Linnaeus (1758) [DISTRIBUTION: Recent; circum-Caribbean.]. It is extant. It is the type species of Fissurella, Fissurella (Fissurella).

It was recombined as Fissurella (Fissurella) nimbosa by Weisbord (1962) and DeVries (2008); it was recombined as Fissurella nimbosa by Lamarck (1822) and Landau et al. (2016).
