Pyrenoturris was named by Eames (1952) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-l T Eo-u Sepkoski's reference number: 914]. Its type is Pyrenoturris soriensis.

It was assigned to Cytharinae by Eames (1952); and to Neogastropoda by Sepkoski (2002).
